Hazard Games

Hazard has been described through the ages and even in Alphonso X of Castile, León, and Galicia’s Book of Games. I will describe here the different variations as they appeared in that book and other sources. For all games of hazard, two dice are needed. It should be noted there is an aspect of gambling in these games. As such, do not gamble using anything of monetary value. Instead, use tokens or candy, for example. [Read More]

Running Organized Role-playing with Younger Audiences

Ever wanted to host an RPG with kids involved? I have and have done it successfully on multiple occasions, including mixed with adults! This entry will hopefully be fruitful in your endeavors to include children in your adventures. How Do Kids Play If you recall from your childhood, role-playing was simple and without formalism. Most take on the role of their favorite cartoon character, superhero, or whatever. The children will then just interact with each other, which makes for fun if Superman and house mom get into inevitable mortal combat. [Read More]

A Two Bit RPG System

I have developed an extension of the Das Lernspiel, which really serves as a replacement. The name? Two Bit RPG. It’s a play on a number of factors. First, it’s a kind of cheap with the fact it’s about a page of rules. Second, it keeps up with the themes of two. These are two dice and two rolls to get the target range. In Das Lernspiel, you use one six-sided die that your success on an action hinges on rolling greater than a difficulty from 1 through 6. [Read More]

Das Lernspiel

I have a novel idea inspired by the Dice Game. It’s to have a role-playing system, with the Dice Game role-playing game (RPG) at the core, which players enjoy through ownership. I present this game for free because the Dice Game is such and I would like parents and teachers world-wide have access to what I think is an exciting system: das Lernspiel. The name, which is German for the “learning game”, has the implied intention of educating the players! [Read More]

macOS Screen Unlock

So, I’ve been looking at ways to get my mobile (Android) or my watch (wearOS) to be able to unlock my macOS-based computer. The difficulty lies in the fact that macOS is geared towards the Apple ecosystem. As such, it will not easily accept a device running somethign such as Android to unlock it. Instead, the easy approach is to just use an iPhone or an Apple Watch. I’d rather not because of my personal tastes. [Read More]

Looney Pyramids

Looney Pyramids are my latest attraction. Why do I appreciate them? They’re not particularly collectible, although they do have a wide variety of colors that you can. It’s the fact the game pieces are very open ended in the rules. It’s because they’re stackable pyramids that you can use them for just about anything that needs tokens, for example, or even build your own game rule sets. I think I have the heart of a game designer, despite being currently a software engineer by profession (and otherwise after January when I level up with an MBA). [Read More]

Monday Night Fights

Monday Night Fights were a thing in the Dragon Dice world where, every Monday night, two or more players would gather together and play a game of Dragon Dice. Afterwards, someone would scribe the highlights of the game and post them to the Usenet alt.games.dice newsgroup. Marvelous! I played a few games myself, too. Unfortunately, I game back from a long haiatus from the game only to find that it and the newsgroup were finished. [Read More]

Militants Of Esfah

The elements are calling the citizens of Esfah. However, some are hearing their call differently. They have risen up against their leadership and formed new alliances that cross species to overthrow the current hierarchies. In response, the leadership have formed alliances, or none at all, and are countering the militants who are taking control of the land. Can you, with the aid of other commanders, capture the terrain from the vile militants? [Read More]

The King's Die

Floating around the world of Esfah are the Eldrymetallum works of the commonly called “Gnomes”. They slaved away using this star born metal and crafted many unique and powerful artifacts and items. One such thing is a simple, purple cube called the King’s Die. Long ago in a city far, far away there was TSR and they were promoting this promising game called “Dragon Dice”. Part of this promotion, many specially molded dice were made. [Read More]

Interactive Fiction Tech Membership Card

So, in the ELF computing world, there is a membership card that displays blinkenlights. This is cool and I wanted to create my own for one of my hobbies in life. To me, the obvious choice was the interactive fiction space. The reasons were mostly pure: It needs to be portable It needs to be assembled easily because not everyone in the IF space are absolute techies. It needs to be internet enabled to download from IFDB.
